Apple’s major AI announcements 🤖 🤯

At its WWDC24 event yesterday, Apple announced major AI updates. It introduced an upgraded Siri, an OpenAI partnership, and more.

An apple a day will keep anyone away if you throw it hard enough. 🍏

What’s up with Siri?

The new Siri has awareness of your screen, can answer complex questions, perform actions across apps, and more. For example, Siri can find your license photo, copy your ID number, and paste it into a web form. You can also tell it to “edit this photo” and then “add it to another app.”

Whoa. What about the OpenAI partnership?

Apple and OpenAI announced a collaboration to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS. This means you can use ChatGPT’s multimodal capabilities directly by interacting with Siri.

Wild. What else?

The iPad’s new calculator app allows you to write and get answers to complex physics problems in real-time.

Did Elon Musk comment?

He emphasized the dangers of Apple’s decision to share data without fully understanding OpenAI’s terms and conditions. He claims he may ban Apple devices from his facilities.

Crazy. Anything else?

Apple plans to integrate its new AI system, Apple Intelligence, into virtually every aspect of its devices’ operating systems.

The new Chief Product Officer is Kevin Weil. He held leadership roles at Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Planet Labs.
