Elon's xAI news

PLUS: Wix's new AI Site Generator

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, human brains. Welcome back to your daily munch of AI news.

Here’s what’s on the menu today:

  • Another AI from Meta 🤖

Meta announced CM3leon, a new generative image AI model.

  • New updates from Elon Musk’s xAI 🚀

Tesla collaboration, Twitter data for AI training, and more.

  • Wix’s new AI Site Generator 🦾

A new AI tool that creates an entire e-commerce site from a prompt.

APPETIZER

Meta’s new AI tool 🚀

Meta announced CM3leon. A new text-to-image and image-to-text AI model.

Karma karma karma karma karma CM3leon.

Alternatively, it can also write captions for images.

So, what’s under the hood?

1/ A transformer model that’s faster than Diffusion models.

2/ The model requires 5 times less compute than Diffusion models

3/ 7 billion parameters (twice as much as DALLE-2)

Arguably the coolest feature: editing the output with text prompts.

“Idk, like make it better”

When is it coming out? Good question. No indication from Meta.

Our take: We’re hoping that Meta releases this one, unlike VoiceBox. Or who knows, maybe they’re launching all the tools as a larger AI suite, all rolled up…

BUZZWORD OF THE DAY

xAI

Elon Musk’s new AI company, introduced publicly on July 12, 2023. The goal of the company is to “understand the true nature of the universe.“

It includes some of the world’s leading AI researchers and is advised by the Director of the Center for AI Safety, Dan Hendrycks.

MAIN COURSE

The Scoop on Elon Musk’s xAI 🚀

One, two, skip a few…

Over 1.6 million people tuned in.

What’d I miss?

1/ Musk plans for xAI to collaborate with Tesla on both the “silicon front“ and “AI software front.“

2/ He said xAI will use Twitter data for AI training.

Still salty about the data scraping, Elon?

3/ Elon hopes xAI will learn to master games by playing against itself, in the same way DeepMind’s Alpha Zero does.

4/ He indicated the AI model by xAI won’t be “politically correct“ and will provide answers that people find controversial.

Remember TruthGPT? He wasn’t kidding.

Our take: zooming out, here’s how this is playing out so far: Elon takes full control on Twitter just as AI starts taking off. Between SpaceX and Tesla, he’s got access to some of the best engineers in the world. Data, audience, and talent. Who knows what the end result is — but one thing’s certain: no shortage of ammo for Musk.

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA

Wix announces AI site generator 🦾

Wix announced its AI Site Generator. Wix claims it can create an entire website based on text prompts.

Alright Wix, create a Google clone.

AI site creators exist, but Wix claims its tool will build in e-commerce, scheduling, services, and event ticketing automatically.

“With AI Site Generator, users will be able to create a complete website, where the design fits the content, as opposed to a template where the content fits the design,“

- Avashi Abrahami

Our take: With platforms like Framer and SpeedyBrand gaining popularity, existing e-commerce platforms like Wix need to act fast. With Shopify’s AI Sidekick and Wix’s AI Site Generator, going online will get easier and easier. The online entrepreneurship boom is nigh.
