Google’s shiny new model… Sort of 🪩 ✨

Yesterday, Google announced Gemini 1.5 Flash’s general availability. They also announced enhancements to Google AI Studio and more.

Gemini 1.5 Flash?

It’s Google’s multimodal model that now processes up to 1000 requests per minute without a daily request limit. This is Google’s response to developers’ requests for lower latency/cost for high-volume tasks.

What’s up with Google AI Studio?

On June 17th, you’ll be able to tune Gemini 1.5 Flash for specific purposes in Google AI Studio and in Gemini’s API. You can tune it with no additional per-token costs.

Anything else?

Google introduced JSON schema mode, which lets you define the desired JSON format for model responses. You can also choose between light/dark mode.

On Wednesday, Anthropic announced general availability of Claude’s tools (function calling).

What do the tools do?

This adds vision support, streaming, and forced tool choice to Claude. It’s easier to use, it’s highly customizable, enables multimodal experiences, and enhances Claude’s ability to process and generate visual content.

Why do I care?

Claude now handles more specialized tasks, gives tailored responses, and offers interactive and dynamic user experiences.
