On Tuesday, Meta unveiled the Meta Digit 360. It’s a fingertip sensor that processes touch in a way that mimics a human nervous system.

What's new?

The Meta Digit 360 sensor uses on-device AI to process pressure, texture, and movement in real-time.

How sensitive is it?

It can detect the slight flex of a tennis ball, feel a pinprick, and process forces lighter than a paperclip. With 18 different sensing features, Meta claims it matches human touch sensitivity.

It can be used in delicate surgeries, manufacturing products, and more. This allows robots to feel how much pressure to use when handling fragile objects or helping with precise medical procedures.

Who's building it?

GelSight is manufacturing the sensors, while Wonik Robotics is integrating them into their Allegro Hand. Together, they're creating a robot hand that can feel and react to objects like we do.

What can you do with it?

You can fine-tune six camera movements: pans, tilts, zooms, rolls, and horizontal and vertical moves. Mix them for complex shots like arcing around a subject or dramatic landscape reveals.

How do I control the shots?

You combine text prompts with camera controls. Describe the scene you want revealed during a zoom-out, and the AI generates matching content as the camera moves.

Is it expensive?

5 credits per second. It trades some quality for speed and affordability to encourage experimentation.

When can I try it?

It's available now through Runway's web interface with a dedicated camera control panel.
