Turn yourself into Anime 😼

This week the YouTube channel Corridor Crew blew our fricken minds with their end-to-end anime pipeline that replaces an entire studio with some AI and a team of three.

We've gone went from needing a team of hundreds to create high-quality animation to a handful of talented guys.

Their pipeline uses a combination of stable diffusion and traditional VFX to turn live-action footage into animation.

Here’s the secret sauce 🥫:

  • First, they pre-trained a stable-diffusion model on the style of animation they wanted to replicate.

  • Then they trained an additional model on each of the actors dressed in character so that the model would know how to consistently draw them.

  • Finally, the team used traditional VFX tools to reduce flickering and smooth out the transition between frames.

It still takes some technical skill, but a true one-stop solution is likely just months away, although probably it won’t be released by the team that made this demo.

In the meantime, you can turn yourself into a meme in just a few clicks using this recently launched product:

Why it matters: There are thousands more people with ideas than there are people with the means to make their ideas a reality. This pipeline dramatically reduces the cost and time required to make amazing animation.

Prediction #1: Someone is about to get rich by building an all-in-one animation product to save production companies money.

Prediction #2: We’re going to see a deluge of animated YouTube Channels and TikTok Filters beginning in the next couple of months.

OpenAI takes back the mic 🎤

OpenAI just made their ChatGPT AI model available via API and it’s 10x cheaper than their previously available models.

The ChatGPT model family we are releasing today, gpt-3.5-turbo, is the same model used in the ChatGPT product. It is priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, which is 10x cheaper than our existing GPT-3.5 models.

OpenAI Announcement

Buckle up and prepare yourself for an explosion of ChatGPT-powered apps.

Simultaneously, OpenAI revealed a slew of new partnerships including Snapchat, Instacart, and Shopify.

Meanwhile….

The internet remembered that OpenAI was founded as a charity with the mission of creating open and freely shared research. Now it’s a multi-billion dollar for-profit corporation that does not share code… whoops.

Elon Musk says that A.I. is ‘one of the biggest risks’ to civilization and needs to be regulated He co-founded OpenAI. Elon's Response: OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it “Open” AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft. Not what I intended at all.

Our take: OpenAI’s greatest fear is not public criticism… it’s competition.

The free stable-diffusion library steamrolled their image generation service DALL•E. They won’t let it happen again with ChatGPT.
